We couldn't do what we do without volunteers! They show up every other Monday to help us make kits with snacks, hygiene items, first aid kits and more. Thank you, volunteers! And thanks to @youralaskalinktv for putting attention on the good work.
Special shoutout to McKenzie and Lori Bradford. They not only assembled kits, they knitted hats to give away!

We met our match! Thank you to all who have donated to #12DaysofWarmth!
Counting the match and those who dropped by with checks and cash, our generous community has given more than $20,000. That is enough to outfit 170 people who are sleeping outdoors with a complete set of winter gear. Incredible!
We are hoping for just a bit more. If you are able to give even $10 for a frostbit prevention kit, it will help us keep our neighbors safe and warm.

Thank you everyone!

💥 When we work with the system, the system works! 💥
A young person with no place to go ended up in an Anchorage ER this week without even a pair of shoes. Our team collaborated with hospital social workers to make sure the person wasn't discharged to the streets. The person got a room at the cold weather shelter, and their information was collected so that help can continue. And we connected with a family member who provided shoes and a change of clothing.
Person-centered care makes a difference!
💯🙏🤩

Our office won't be open for walk-ins today, Tuesday, Dec. 10. We are in an all-day retreat working on how each of us can best contribute to solving homelessness. If you are a person experiencing homelessness, please check out the resources on our website. https://ww.aceh.org/anchorage-resources

👉 Did you know that Anchorage saw a rise in homelessness in October? Among the reasons: almost 300 people who had never before experienced homelessness contacted the system for the first time AND a drop in how many are getting into stable housing, because those programs are full.
🏠 This is a tough time that highlights the need for housing with supports. It comes after a remarkable nine straight months of declining numbers.
💯As our Executive Director Meg Zaletel puts it, "Let's get the pieces moving forward to make that progress again!"

❄️ For people with no home in Anchorage, getting through hard winter days and long cold nights often depends on simple things like a pair of gloves to protect cracked hands or a warm jacket to keep their core from freezing. The right winter gear isn't just nice, it can save fingers and toes and lives.
🙏 You can help someone stay warm tonight! More than 35 people already have pitched in, giving what they can. Just $10 is enough to help out a neighbor with a frostbite prevention kit.
