On Veterans Day, let’s honor those who serve and acknowledge that veteran homelessness exists in our community. Through partnership and connection, we can find successful housing outcomes for our veterans, like we did this summer for Jeramy.

***Data tells the story!***
👉 For the first time in 9 months, more people are flowing into the homelessness services system than are flowing out.
🏠 Reason: Housing programs are full.
🙏 Over the past week, 200 people who had been living outdoors moved into cold weather shelter. That's about 40% of our unsheltered neighbors!
💯 We need more housing!

It's Halloween, snow is falling, and street outreach is connecting with our unsheltered neighbors! Today ACEH and partners held our weekly popup event at Davis Park, providing snacks, hot coffee, first aid and connection to services.
Along with a group that includes SALA Medical, Covenant House and other partners, we are here every Thursday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Street outreach can be a lifeline. Too often, our team members encounter someone who has been violently hurt by a partner. Street outreach connects individuals with @awaic to ensure they have a safe place to be.
As Domestic Violence Awareness Month wraps up, let's keep looking out for each other. Anyone experiencing domestic violence or wanting more information about how to help a loved one is encouraged to call AWAIC’s 24-hour crisis line at 907-272-0100.

Our Anchorage housing crisis not only contributes to homelessness but also means that many people don't have a safe housing option.
Thanks to @anchoragedailynews for putting attention on the fire dangers of neglected multifamily housing.
