HUD announces historic amounts of CoC funding

A lack of affordable, supported housing means people camp outdoors all year in Alaska. The HUD funds help many in Alaska stay housed.

The federal government on Friday announced the largest amount of federal funding to the Continuum of Care program in history. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development program provides housing and supportive services for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Organizations in the Anchorage Continuum of Care will receive a total of $4.46 million in fiscal year 2024 to house and support those who have been unhoused, and for the systems needed to support the work such as data management. While our community did not receive funding for every project we wanted to do, a new project to serve those who have experienced domestic violence is being funded. The new awards also include a first-of-its-kind cost of living adjustment. Overall, the Anchorage Continuum of Care received a slight increase.

Alaska communities outside of Anchorage are in the Balance of State Continuum of Care, which is receiving $2.37 million, an 18% increase over the year before.
