Awards support solutions to homelessness

Our community’s commitment to address homelessness was evident with recent awards totaling $4.4 million to the Anchorage Continuum of Care from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The funds will allow service providers to continue projects already underway as well as launch one new project providing permanent supportive housing for youth and young adults.

The CoC is our community network of service organizations for people experiencing homelessness. The Coalition is the HUD-designated lead agency and manages the annual unified request to HUD. All applicant agencies have been notified. The Coalition will receive funds for planning and Coordinated Entry, the system that provides housing assessments for those in need.

The awards will directly benefit people experiencing homelessness with nearly $1.4 million in rental assistance and more than $980,000 in supportive services. Small increases for housing assistance reflect Fair Market Rent increases. More than $175,000 will support the Homelessness Management Information System.

With these funds, service providers have committed to serve at least 500 youth and 101 single adults, as well as six families.

The Continuum of Care is overseen by an Advisory Council, with four committees. These committees need you! They are: Compliance, Coordinated Entry, Data and Prioritization. Learn more here. Please email info@HPRSadvisorycouncil.org to join any of those monthly committee meetings.
