Housing: Not a one and done

Discussion at the first Housing Retention Case Conferencing meeting on May 1, 2024.

When someone takes the big step from homeless to housed, they sometimes need supports to stay housed. What happens when their housing voucher runs out? What if issues arise and they don’t have a case manager?

A new collaboration addresses those questions and more. Housing Retention Case Conferencing met for the first time this week. This action-oriented conferencing is sharing resources, brainstorming solutions and working together to ensure that when someone gets housed, they stay housed.

Some ideas from the first meeting: Housing specialists can help locate units. Mobile case management might be a way to stay connected to clients. Big goals can be broken down into bite-sized pieces so that clients see progress. Smaller grants can fill in and bring down monthly rents to an affordable rate.

The group is organized by the Coalition and will meet the last Tuesday of each month. If you are a case manager working to help people get and keep housing, reach out to communications@aceh.org for an invitation.
